High Barrier Thermoforming Films Manufacturers

Our company has introduced advanced multi-layer co-extrusion production equipment, focusing on the production of seven-layer, nine-layer, and eleven-layer co-extruded high-barrier films. These films offer high barrier properties, excellent functionality, and high strength, along with puncture resistance, significantly extending the shelf life of products while preserving the unique flavors of food. We offer various thicknesses, including low-temperature frozen films and high-temperature vacuum cooking barrier films. The frozen packaging is suitable for pork, beef, lamb, chicken, duck, goose, fish, shrimp, and seafood, with a temperature range from -18°C to -45°C. The high-temperature cooking film can withstand 121°C in pressure cooking, making it ideal for packaging various cooked meat products (such as chicken, duck, goose, and pig's feet). In addition to providing high-quality products, we also offer comprehensive technical services and sincerely look forward to cooperating with you!

Industry knowledge

SC Shanghai New Material Tech. Co.,Ltd. is a Multi-layer Co-extruded Film manufacturer in Shanghai, China. We produce 7-layer, 9-layer, and 11-layer PA/PE and PA/EVOH/PE films for frozen food, high-temperature sterilization, vacuum packaging, and automated form-fill-seal lines.

Our Position in Multi-layer Co-extruded Film

Our co-extrusion lines are configured for high-barrier food packaging, not commodity stretch film. We focus on structures that combine nylon for puncture and thermoforming performance, tie layers for interlayer bonding, and PE sealant layers for reliable heat sealing on horizontal and vertical form-fill-seal equipment.

Every roll is produced to a defined layer structure, thickness, and width. We do not stock a single universal film; instead, we build the structure around the product, the packaging process, and the shelf-life target.

Product Range and Application Fit

Our Multi-layer Co-extruded Film range covers two main product families, each with a distinct barrier profile and processing window.

Film Type Structure Barrier Performance Typical Applications
PA/PE General Barrier Thermoforming Film Nylon / Tie / Nylon / Tie / PE / PE / PE WVTR ≤6 g/(m²·24h); OTR ≤220 cm³/(m²·24h·0.1MPa) Frozen meat, seafood, poultry, general vacuum packaging
High Barrier Thermoforming Film with EVOH Nylon / Tie / EVOH / Tie / PE / PE / PE WVTR ≤1 g/(m²·24h); OTR ≤1 cm³/(m²·24h·0.1MPa) Sausages, processed meats, fresh cuts, extended shelf-life products

Both families are available in 7, 9, or 11 layers. The layer count and EVOH content determine the oxygen and moisture barrier, while the nylon content controls puncture resistance and thermoforming depth.

Critical Specifications We Confirm Before Production

  • Thickness: Customized within the processing window of the selected structure.
  • Width: Slit to the required roll width; width deviation +4 / -2 mm.
  • Breaking load: MD ±6%; TD ≥30 N.
  • Heat sealing strength: ≥20 N/15 mm.
  • Peel strength: ≥6 N/15 mm.
  • Migration and safety: Total migration ≤10 mg/dm²; potassium permanganate consumption ≤10 mg/kg; heavy metals (as Pb) ≤1 mg/kg.

These values are verified on production rolls and recorded in the batch inspection report. For high-barrier structures, we also test oxygen transmission rate and water vapor permeance on finished film.

Temperature Range and Process Fit

Our films are engineered for two distinct temperature regimes. Frozen packaging films remain flexible and crack-resistant from -18°C down to -45°C, suitable for pork, beef, lamb, chicken, duck, goose, fish, shrimp, and seafood. High-temperature cooking films withstand pressure cooking at 121°C for vacuum-packed cooked meats such as chicken, duck, goose, and pig's feet.

For processors running both frozen and retort lines, we can supply matched structures that share the same sealing window, reducing changeover time and seal parameter adjustments.

Configuration Options and Line Integration

We configure each film to the packaging line, not to a catalogue number. The main variables are:

  • Layer structure: PA/PE or PA/EVOH/PE, with 7, 9, or 11 layers.
  • Sealant layer: PE grade selected for sealing temperature, hot tack, and contamination tolerance.
  • Surface: Corona treatment level for printing or lamination adhesion.
  • Roll format: Core diameter, roll diameter, winding direction, and splice frequency.
  • Color: Transparent, red, black, or other colors for light-blocking or branding.

Our films run on horizontal form-fill-seal (HFFS) thermoforming lines and vertical form-fill-seal (VFFS) machines. We provide the film width, thickness, and coefficient of friction data needed to set forming temperature, sealing pressure, and dwell time.

Quality Control and Acceptance

Production follows ISO 9001, HACCP, BRC, and GMP systems. Raw material pellets are 100% brand-new food-grade resin. Each batch is tested for tensile strength, puncture resistance, sealing performance, and barrier properties. Chemical testing covers material composition and gas barrier performance. Environmental simulation includes freezing, vacuum, and transportation simulation.

We maintain a production traceability system from raw material to finished roll. Inspection reports are available per batch. For projects requiring formal acceptance, we agree on sampling plan, test methods, and acceptance criteria before production.

Information We Use to Configure Your Solution

To prepare a film specification and quotation, we need the following project inputs. The more precise the data, the closer the first sample will be to production conditions.

Input Category Details We Need
Product Food type, fat content, bone-in or boneless, moisture level, pH
Process Frozen, chilled, vacuum, MAP, retort temperature, packaging machine type
Shelf life Target shelf life in days or months, storage and distribution conditions
Film format Roll width, thickness, core size, roll diameter, winding direction
Printing Print design files (.pdf or .ai), number of colors, surface treatment requirement
Volume Estimated annual or per-order quantity, delivery schedule

Related Packaging Formats

Our co-extruded films are also converted into finished packaging formats for customers who prefer ready-to-fill bags. These include Frozen Food Packaging Bag for seafood and meat, Stand up Pouch for retail portions, and Custom Printing Film Roll for branded rollstock. The same barrier structure and quality controls apply across these formats.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PA/PE and PA/EVOH/PE co-extruded film?

PA/PE film uses nylon for strength and PE for sealing, giving moderate barrier against moisture and oxygen. PA/EVOH/PE adds an EVOH layer that reduces oxygen transmission rate to ≤1 cm³/(m²·24h·0.1MPa) and water vapor permeance to ≤1 g/(m²·24h), which significantly extends shelf life for oxygen-sensitive products.

Can your film withstand both freezing and high-temperature cooking?

We produce separate structures for each condition. Frozen films remain flexible from -18°C to -45°C. High-temperature cooking films withstand 121°C pressure cooking. If a single product requires both freeze-thaw and retort, we can evaluate a combined structure based on the specific temperature profile.

What thickness and width can you supply?

Thickness is customized within the processing window of the selected structure. Width is slit to your requirement with a deviation of +4 / -2 mm. We confirm both values against your packaging machine specifications before production.

Do you provide samples for line trials?

Yes. We supply sample rolls for machine trials and shelf-life testing. For the most useful trial, we need your target thickness, width, and the packaging conditions so the sample matches production film.

How do you handle quality documentation?

Each batch is traceable from raw material to finished roll. We provide inspection reports covering physical, chemical, and barrier tests. Our production follows ISO 9001, HACCP, BRC, and GMP systems, and we can align acceptance testing with your incoming inspection protocol.
